Don Quixote
by Ted Dutch (1928-2008)

In 'Don Quixote', a painting by much loved artist Ted Dutch, there is a sense that the artist has created his own mythology - a parallel universe or a possible future. Here, our warrior stands upon his horse, set amid its somewhat bizarre landscape of out of this world like buildings below a high blue sky, he possesses a pathos which is immediately apparent to the viewer and which serves to make even Dutch's most outlandish situations grounded and emotionally believable. Fusing together several key elements from throughout his career such as the warrior figure on the three-eyed horse, the cityscape scene and, across the sky, evidence of another of Dutch’s favorite icons, the flying machine, ‘Don Quixote’ is a very special edition to the oeuvre of this prolific artist.
