Ted Dutch
This series features posturing yet bewildered figures, nobly facing their pointless quests. Emerging in the late 1960s, the minimal aesthetic reflects Ted's preoccupation at the time with Japanese calligraphy and animation lines. With their focus on self-importance, rank and role-playing, these works are closely related to Ted's 'Royalty' pieces and are a clear pre-cursor to the quixotic 'Horsemen' that appear across his practice.
