Red Machine
by Ted Dutch

Newly rediscovered in 2003 in the artist’s private archive, 'Red Machine' is a premium example of Ted Dutch’s historically significant print work. Only the second fine-art screen print attempted by Dutch, a copy of this print resides in the permanent collection of Te Papa, The National Museum of New Zealand. The piece is an excellent example of Dutch’s fascination with technology, and features a slightly ambiguous, but obviously huge-scale, red machine highlighted against a simmering industrial background. The heat and energy conveyed by this piece give it exceptional strength, while the expansive landscape that forms the backdrop of the composition conveys at the grandeur of the modern technological accomplishment.
