The Passage Between - Andrew Barns-Graham

03 June to 22 June 2008

Sanderson Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the opening of ‘A Passage Between’, a new solo exhibition of paintings by Andrew Barns-Graham.

Developed from his previous obsessions with the face, Barns-Graham’s new works introduce flawless, full length depictions of women placed in vast open landscapes. Based on a fictional landscape concocted by Barns-Graham, each figure relates to the next by their respective positioning in this imaginary space – their placement within the exhibition also reflects these relationships. From forest scenes to lake scenes, river beds to mountain-scapes, each woman gazes back at the viewer, often engaged with familiar yet puzzling props, open to our interpretation and personal associations. Each piece is delicately composed and painted in Barns-Graham’s hyper-realist style, heightening the perfect and idealised nature of each subject.
