Springtide, featuring 8 emerging artists, is a unique opportunity to view the work of an upcoming generation of New Zealand contemporary artists. The selection has focused on fresh, non-commercial projects unlikely to get exposure in many dealer spaces and therefore promises to be a new and unexpected viewing experience for visitors.
All exhibitors have recently graduated from art school and have a practice which is robust and innovative. Each artist will be given a section of the gallery to work with, providing a suite of work that encapsulates part of their practice.
Since the work is not produced to fit a ‘theme’ there will be diversity in the messages delivered across the exhibition. This allows Springtide to act as a forum for each artist to authentically express their practice to an audience.
As well as thematic independence between artists, works will also include a range of media from photography, to light sculpture, to large-scale charcoal drawings, to an animatronic cat.
Springtide will be co-curated between Gallery Director Kylie Sanderson and Matt Molloy, one of the emerging artists selected for the exhibition.
