Celebrated New Zealand cartoonist, commentator and political satirist Peter Bromhead promises characteristic humour, caustic wit and topical political insights in his exhibition Retrospective at Sanderson Contemporary Art.

The show includes important drawings, portraits and coloured limited-edition prints, from a combination of both historical and contemporary works.

Bromhead is one of the nation’s most respected and awarded cartoonists with nine Qantas media awards to his credit.  Additionally, he has received the Prince Hendrik Medal of Honour and the MNZM for his services to cartooning.

In 2009 he was awarded the prestigious Qantas prize for outstanding contribution to the print and media industry.

The artist’s work is represented in many prominent public gallery collections, such as Auckland Art Gallery and Te Papa, and is also well documented in publications internationally, such as Daryl Cagle’s book The Best Cartoons of the Year 2008 published in the USA.  New Zealand publications include Bromhead’s View,1999 and Ten Years Hard Labour, 1996.

With a considerable local and international reputation, Bromhead’s work is both well sought after and highly collectable.

In addition to acquiring a significant work of art, Retrospective provides a wonderful opportunity to obtain a small part of New Zealand’s social history.
