'View from the Creek', a painting by ex-pat artist Alan Pearson, reflects an exploration of surroundings beyond the New Zealand landscape to the Australian environs of Noosa and Maroochy, Pearson's home for the past five years. Based around the Weyba Downs area, 'View from the Creek' was the second painting of semi-abstract works from this period. It depicts the light reflections from the creek bed and the sub-tropical bush near the lake and coast. 'The Sunshine Coast, the sea and its rhythms and its people, took my notice at first in 2000 and my observations turned away from the philosophical, political angst of my last works in New Zealand to space and time and the spirit of this place. I want to orchestrate both the static and volatile movement of the trees and incorporate the figure as a part of the rhythms and musicality inherent in nature, and in my own nature. These recent works display how I feel the sounds, sense the cadences and bring it to a visual choreography as a part of the dance of existence in an expressionistic manner particular to me.' - Alan Pearson, 2006
